New Housing and a New Coop Store in Schöftland

At the “Zentrum Dorfstrasse”, three residential buildings are being developed in two phases above the Coop retail space on the ground floor. In mid-September, the first tenants moved into the new building. At the same time, Coop opened the newly completed section of its retail space. Thanks to the phased construction approach, Coop will remain open throughout the entire construction period while the third and final residential building is completed on the building’s podium level.

In mid-September 2026, the first tenants moved into the new residential building on Dorfstrasse in Schöftland. The SF Retail Properties Fund, a product of the Swiss Finance & Property Group, is creating new housing above the Coop store, with a total of 36 apartments across three buildings.

With the completion of the first building, the first 12 apartments are now ready for occupancy. The twelve apartments combine high-quality finishes with the benefits of the Minergie-P-ECO standard: oak parquet flooring, exposed timber ceilings and loggias characterise the living spaces. A well-insulated building envelope and controlled ventilation contribute to a pleasant indoor climate.

For Coop, this also marks the beginning of a new chapter. At the same time as the residents moved in, Coop opened its new retail space on the ground floor. The redevelopment was designed to provide the greatest possible comfort for the municipality and the residents of “Zentrum Dorfstrasse”. The supermarket remained open throughout the construction work completed to date and will also remain open during the second phase.

This is the result of the phased approach planned jointly with Coop. While the store operates in the new section of the building, construction of the second phase can continue on the other part of the site.

Following the occupancy of the first twelve apartments, a further twelve apartments in the middle building will be ready for occupancy in December. All 24 apartments have already been let.

The second phase will then begin. A third residential building with a further twelve apartments will be constructed on the site next to the new building, along with an extension of Coop’s retail space on the ground floor. Completion is scheduled for summer 2028. In total, the new residential and commercial development on the site will comprise 36 rental apartments and more than 2 400 m² of commercial space.

The construction method used for the “Zentrum Dorfstrasse” project in Schöftland contributes to a sustainable residential concept: concrete stairwell cores are combined with timber ceilings and external walls. The Minergie-P-ECO certificate awarded to the construction project stands for high energy efficiency and residential comfort, while the additional “ECO” certification sets requirements for healthy and environmentally friendly building materials. Heat pumps complement the energy concept.

The following video shows how the prefabricated timber elements are assembled to form the new building:
